What's New at NEHA?

Hemophilia Walk:  Our inaugural Walk on June 5, 2010 raised over $115,000 and money is still coming in!  We estimated that we had about 500 walkers, and many of them were part of the 39 teams that were represented.  While poor weather threatened the day, the sun finally came out mid-morning, and the Walk was off to a great start.  Val Bias, the NHF CEO was able to join us for the day and walked with his family.  There were exhibits, refreshments, a DJ, face painters, a magician, and lots of fun for all.  Save the Date for next year- June 4, 2011.

New NEHA Staff:  Our new Program Director is Lisa Schmitt.  Lisa started on January 19th, and will be managing all program and social activities for the Chapter including SpringFest, Family Camp, Spanish language programs and the holiday party.  Lisa comes to us from Junior Achievement where she was their District Education Manager, and Special Olympics where she was Area Manager with responsibilities for managing program events for over 27 towns with upwards of 1,000 volunteers.  She may be reached at lschmitt@newenglandhemophilia.org, and at the NEHA office.  Lisa will be working Tuesdays through Thursdays at the NEHA office.

Our new Advocacy Coordinator is Wendy Owens.  Wendy started on January 25th, and will be coordinating all advocacy, and public policy issues and initiatives for the Chapter.  She has extensive leadership experience managing two businesses; the first a small non-profit providing high quality educational resources to the global education community, and the second overseeing applications for patents granted in the U.S. and overseas for advanced materials technologies.  Wendy has been heavily involved in legislative activities in Washington, and currently serves as an advisor and committee member to the U.S. Dept of Commerce Industry Trade Advisory Committee.  She will be working primarily Monday and Wednesdays in the NEHA office, and may be reached at 781-326-7645 or at wowens@newenglandhemophilia.org.

New Walk Manager:  Also new to NEHA is Sondra Traister who will be leading our 2010 Hemophilia Walk occuring on June 5, 2010.  Sondra comes to NEHA with many years of experience in directing special events, and has led several Walks with different organizations over the past few years.  Her first day with NEHA is January 5th, and she will be working from the Dedham office.  You can expect to hear much more from Sondra as she hits the ground running- our Walk is only 5 months away!
NEHA Newsletter Help Needed This excellent resource has been developed by a small but fantastic group of individuals who have produced one of the best newsletters in the country.  However, times change, and our ranks have been reduced significantly.  We are looking for individuals willing to assist our newsletter team in determining topics for articles, seeking out writers (or writing yourself), and helping us identify current issues of interest for our community.  If you would be interested in helping out as a member of the Newsletter team, please contact NEHA.  We really could use your help!
