General FallFest Questions

What is FallFest?

FallFest is NEHA’s Annual Meeting and an opportunity for members of the New England bleeding disorders community to gather for education and connection. Presentation topics vary from bleeding disorders and health insurance education, to mental health, advocacy, and aging.

Attendees participate in small group discussions to process information and receive peer support. Kids and teens also receive education on topics relevant to their age group.

When will FallFest take place?

FallFest will take place from Friday, October 23 to Sunday, October 25, 2020. See our detailed agenda below.

I’ve never been to FallFest. Is there anything I need to know before I sign-up?

We are thrilled to have new families join us for FallFest this year! While the virtual experience may look different, we’ve created a multi-faceted event using Zoom, GooseChase, eZ-XPO, and direct mail, to offer something for everyone!

What age do you need to be to participate in FallFest?

FallFest activities are designed for the whole family. Here’s what you can expect:

  • The opening live session on Friday, October 23 is for the whole family. We’ll have a keynote speaker, followed by a pumpkin carving demonstration.
  • The virtual exhibit booth and live programming on October 24 and October 25 is geared for adults, ages 18 and older.
  • Throughout the weekend, we’ll have a scavenger hunt open for kids and teens to complete activities in GooseChase. The activities were designed for participants ages 5-17, although many can be modified for younger attendees to enjoy as well. The fun in GooseChase isn’t only for kids! We’ve planned activities and trivia questions for adults to complete as well.

 

What activities do you have planned for FallFest?

  • FallFest Package: Each household will be mailed a box with supplies to use for programming, including a guide to weekend activities and items from our sponsors. Registered children ages 17 and under will receive a separate package with supplies to complete activities in the GooseChase scavenger hunt. 
  • Scavenger Hunt: Using the mobile app, GooseChase, participants will complete a series of activities from home between October 23 and October 25. Participants will be able to post photos and videos of completed activities, as well as receive points for items completed. 
  • Live Programming: We will offer multiple educational sessions from October 23 to October 25. See our agenda below. 
  • Exhibit Booth: Attendees will have the opportunity to meet local pharmaceutical company and specialty pharmacy representatives and receive information on products and services in our virtual exhibit booth.

Is everything going to take place online?

All live programming and the exhibit booth will take place online. Many of the activities we’ve planned in the app, GooseChase, require little time in front of a computer or phone. We want to encourage creativity and play outside of technology, especially with so many of us spending our days online. While some elements of FallFest will require you to use a device, we’ve tried to limit screen time as much as possible.

Do I have to participate in every component offered during FallFest?

While it would be wonderful to have everyone partake in as many activities as possible, we know that some aspects of virtually programming aren’t universal. We ask that you participate in as much as possible, at a level that is comfortable for you and your family.

How much does FallFest cost?

There is no cost to attend FallFest for all 2020 NEHA Members. To become a member, click here. If you would like to apply for a membership scholarship, please email: [email protected]. Membership dues help to off-set the cost of our programs and services.

Why are birth dates included as part of registration?

Some of the activities in GooseChase are different for kids ages 5-12 and teens ages 13-17. This information will help us plan accordingly. 

What’s the next step after I register?

Once registration closes on October 15, we will mail a package to each household. The week prior to the start of FallFest, we will email all registrants further instructions for attending the live sessions and other final logistics.

Will we be receiving any packages from NEHA to complete activities for FallFest?

Yes. NEHA will be sending out packages with supplies to enhance your participation in our activities, as well as an instructional guide and items from our sponsors. Registered children ages 17 and under will receive a separate package with supplies to complete activities in the GooseChase scavenger hunt.

Supplies were ordered well in advance so that the various components are able to “sit” before being shipped. Staff members sorting and mailing these items will also take proper precautions to ensure safety.

What if I have to cancel my registration for FallFest?

We understand that your availability to participate may change from the time you registered to the event itself. Due to the amount of work and costs associated with the event, we ask that you please inform NEHA as soon as possible if an unforeseen circumstance comes up limiting or preventing your participation.

To be good stewards of our resources, we have continued to include the following provision in our event registration:Due to the cost of shipping the boxes and purchasing the supplies, there will be a $35 cancelation fee per family by not participating in the majority of events.”

If you are experiencing a personal or medical emergency, please contact us to discuss. Please be aware that if you register for FallFest and do not participate, we will reach out afterward about the cancellation fee unless we hear from you.

Technology Questions

Will I be able to access FallFest programming from any type of device (laptop/smartphone/tablet)?

Yes. We’ve chosen platforms that can stream across multiple devices and are mobile friendly.

What platforms will be used for FallFest?

As we did with Family Camp and our Consumer Medical Symposium, we will use Zoom, the mobile app GooseChase, and eZ-XPO for the virtual exhibit hall. We’ll send instructions and best practices for each platform in the FallFest program to registered participants prior to the event.

Do I have to “be seen” on video or can I listen/watch without being seen by others?

Anyone who would like to remain off camera will have the option to turn their camera off, to listen by phone, or to listen by computer audio only on Zoom. 

What is NEHA doing to protect online safety?

We will make every effort to ensure the safety of participants, as we do for all in-person or virtual events. Here’s how we are addressing online safety:

  • NEHA is taking precautions to ensure anyone involved in FallFest is a legitimate member of the bleeding disorders community. 
  • During Zoom Meetings, we’ll have a waiting room in place before people are admitted. Each session will also have an administrator dedicated to monitoring screens for safety. 
  • After research and discussion with internal and external partners, we’ve opted to use GooseChase and Zoom because of the security measures each platform has in place. 
  • Attendees will receive instructions on appropriate behavior in virtual settings as part of the FallFest program mailed prior to the event.
